MSHSAA Board Upholds Move to Strip Clayton of Victories

By AP/KWMU

St. Louis, Mo. – Missouri's High School Activities Association upholds its earlier move that Clayton High forfeit nine victories this season and sit out the playoffs.

But the suburban St. Louis school is not sitting still. District officials have authorized the district's attorney to ask a federal judge to intervene tomorrow, with the playoffs scheduled to start later that day.

The association ordered the forfeits after Clayton self-reported it used an ineligible player, junior quarterback Jairus Byrd.

He's the son of former San Diego Charger cornerback Gill Byrd, now a defensive assistant for the St. Louis Rams.

The junior Byrd does not live within the Clayton School District.
