St. Louis, Mo. – More than 150 St. Louisans from diverse backgrounds met Wednesday to discuss changing the city's 89-year-old charter.
Advance St. Louis-formerly known as Citizens for Home Rule-has organized a so-called stakeholders assembly to gather public input on charter reform.
Consultant and former school board president Marlene Davis is part of the assembly. She says it's too early in the process to suggest specific changes.
"Our city is smaller. Our city has some problems in being as progressive as it could be, so yes you would need some changes. Exactly to what degree that would be, I'm not sure," Davis said.
Some reformers say the mayor's office should have more power and there should be fewer aldermen.
Advance St. Louis hopes to present plans to local voters next year or in 2005.
