Woman Alleges Sexual Abuse by Former Nun in 1970s

By K. Lavery, KWMU

St. Louis, Mo. – A retired nun is facing a civil lawsuit filed by a St. Louis woman who claims the nun sexually abused her.

The plaintiff, who's chosen not to reveal her name, alleges that Sister Judith Fisher molested her between 1972 and 1977, starting when the plaintiff was in the eighth grade. Fisher was then working as a teacher with the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet.

The case is the latest in a string of lawsuits filed against members of the St. Louis archdiocese. Patrick Noaker is the plaintiff's attorney.

"We don't know the extent of the abuse," Noaker said. "The archdiocese of St. Louis knows. The only information that's come out into the public domain has been forcibly brought out during litigation of some sort."

A spokesman for the archdiocese says they will reserve comment until their attorneys have an opportunity to review the lawsuit.
