A group of weather experts from around the country is spending its first days at Mid-America Airport in southwestern Illinois.
They're part of a $4 million study that aims to learn more about what's called a "Bow-Echo." That's a storm that is much bigger than a thunderstorm that can be as damaging as a tornado.
KWMU's Tom Weber recently spoke with Jim Moore, the project's leader. The study will last until the first week in July; Moore says meteorologists know very little about Bow-Echoes.
