In 1996 DNA evidence freed Kevin Green from a California prison. He spent 16 years there after being wrongly convicted of beating his pregnant wife and causing the death of their full-term fetus.
Green was the 35th person in the United States to be exonerated by DNA evidence. The state of California eventually paid him one hundred dollars for each day he was incarcerated, and the man who killed his daughter is on death row in California.
Green now works in the utility industry in Jefferson City, and has become an advocate for criminal justice reform. He spoke at Saint Louis University Thursday, and talked with KWMU's Matt Sepic. Green says throughout his incarceration, he always maintained his innocence.
