St. Charles, Missouri – As US troops push on towards Baghdad, some Boeing employees in St. Louis are working to see to the financial needs of military families whose loved ones are deployed in the war.
Friday some employees sent money to local families through a voluntary donation program. The James S. McDonnell USO based at Lambert Airport will distribute the funds to thousands of families.
USO executive director Ginny Compton says the money will be used for a variety of everyday purposes.
Maybe grocery coupons, lawn care service, day care," said Compton as she listed some of the needs. "Day care is a very big need, and household repairs. So, we listened to them and we're going to try to come up with some plan to be able to meet those needs.
A percentage of the money collected will also be given to spouses of Boeing St. Louis employees who've been called to active duty in the armed forces.
