St. Louis, MO – St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay took part in a special service Wednedsay morning to celebrate the anniversary of the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation - the document that led to the abolition of slavery.
The Reverend Emmanuel Cleaver - the former Mayor of Kansas City - told worshippers at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church that despite the fact that slavery was ended, racism and bigotry still exist in the world. He also preached that each generation owes a debt to the previous generation.
The Emmancipation Proclamation was signed 140 years ago.
