This article first appeared in the St. Louis Beacon, Jan. 5, 2011 - Now-former U.S. Sen. Christopher "Kit" Bond, R-Mo., may not be lobbying in his new private career -- but he will offer "strategic advising."
Former Bond aide Mike DuBois sent out an email to supporters and potential clients this week that lays out the goals and objectives of the firm, to be known as "Kit Bond Strategies."
The email says, in part:
"I am pleased to announce that I and a couple of other associates will be joining Sen. Bond in the formation of a strategic advising and international political and business development firm that will be based in Missouri and Washington, D.C.
"We are currently in the process of establishing Kit Bond Strategies with an emphasis in, but not limited to, areas of defense, energy, biotech and Asia/international business development. Sen. Bond is also going to be spending a minor percentage of his time completely separate with the Thompson Coburn Law Firm."
DuBois declined to respond to a request today from the Beacon for comment.
Bond, 71, announced this week his plans to join Thompson Coburn, previously the legal home of the late former Sen. Thomas F. Eagleton, D-Mo. Bond emphasized that he will not be lobbying former congressional colleagues.
In an interview in December, Bond told Robert Koenig, the Beacon's Washington correspondent, that he also was planning to set up a business development consultancy "helping firms do business in Asia, trying to bring Asian firms back here, and also helping a lot of startup companies in Missouri to take advantage of the tremendous research and technology that we have in the state."
