This article first appeared in the St. Louis Beacon, Oct. 25, 2009 - State Rep. Tim Meadows, D-Imperial, has announced that he was arrested Friday night on a drunken-driving charge.
Meadows is apparently of the mind that it's best if the bearer of bad political news is the one who will have to bear it
“Late Friday evening I was arrested in Imperial on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. I am deeply sorry this incident occurred and sincerely apologize to my family and to my constituents," Meadows said in a statement issued Sunday.
"This has never happened in the past, and it certainly won’t happen again in the future. As this case in now a matter for the judicial system, my attorney has advised me to make no further comment at this time.”
Meadows is certainly not the first area legislator to face a drunken-driving charge, but he is among the few who have announced their arrest before police -- or political rivals -- did.
