This article first appeared in the St. Louis Beacon, Dec. 23, 2011 - The cheerful glow of colored and white lights emanating from downtown's Citygarden sculpture park surrounds a dark spot now that the Terrace View restaurant is serving its last meal at lunch on Dec. 23.
No new restaurant tenant is set to occupy the space but there's been plenty of interest, according to Terrace View general manager Jeff Handlan.
"A whole bunch of restaurateurs have been through, from St. Louis, New York and L.A.," Handlan said.
Terrace View's announcement to close this past September prompted talk of the site's potential as a casual lunch spot. In those conversations, one name kept popping up: Danny Meyer, the St. Louis native known for an impressive collection of New York restaurants including his famous Shake Shacks that now dot the East Coast.
Last year, Meyer told the Beacon that he does wonder "Could I ever come home" and open a restaurant here. Meyer's assistant did not return emails and phone calls from the Beacon following up on his possible interest in the Citygarden or any other local site.
