JEFFERSON CITY – The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has delayed the start of new auto emissions testing requirements in the St. Louis area.
The new Gateway Vehicle Inspection Program will allow inspections at local auto shops instead of state-run facilities.
Leanne Tippet Mosby with the Division of Environmental Quality says, though, more time is needed to get those businesses ready.
"Unfortunately, we were under such a tight-time frame to get all of the equipment and all of the equipment deployed to the repair shops who signed up to do the testing, get all the training done for the technicians that will be conducting the testing. We were unable to have a start-up on September 4th, which was our original plan," said Mosby.
Instead, the program will start October 1st.
Missouri motorists with September plates can get their emissions test done october 1st and December 1st.
