Special education teacher pleads no contest to child sex charges

By AP/KWMU

Clayton, Mo. – A former special education teacher pleaded no contest Monday to 21 counts of performing oral sex on four of her students from a suburban St. Louis school district.

Cathy Heminghaus of Ferguson will be sentenced in September. The 47-year-old was a special needs teacher at Ferguson Middle School.

Heminghaus also pleaded no contest to two counts of a teacher having sex with a student and two counts of plying minors with alcohol.

Prosecutors said the victims were between the ages of 13 to 15 at the time of the crimes, and had minor behavioral problems.

Heminghaus was fired from her job after she was arrested early last year.
