McCaskill starts tour of vet town hall meetings

By Tom Weber, KWMU

St. Louis, MO – Senator Claire McCaskill started a four-day tour this morning (Tuesday) to visit veterans in 15 cities across Missouri.

She says she wants to use the town hall meetings to hear from veterans who use VA hospitals and services.

"When you go to a facility and just talk to the people in charge, you don't always get the information you need," says McCaskill. "And what I need right now, as we move forward on legislation in June, I need to know what's good about the services they're receiving, what's frustrating to them, what we can improve."

The recent scandal at Walter Reed Medical Center put VA hospitals into the spotlight. Walter Reed, though, is run by the Pentagon and not the Department of Veterans' Affairs (as the other hospitals are).

McCaskill's St. Louis stop will be at a VFW post in Overland (10815 Midland Blvd.)on Friday morning, from 9-10 a.m.
