Jefferson City, MO. – Missouri Treasurer Sarah Steelman is calling on the state's pension funds not to invest in companies that do business with Iran, North Korea, Sudan and other countries that sponsor terrorism.
Her proposal will be introduced into the Missouri House and Senate as a non-binding resolution.
Steelman says her office has implemented the first terror-free pension fund in the U.S.
"We're going to have another mutual fund, terror-free mutual fund, that's in our 529 plan, so slowly but surely we're making progress," Steelman said.
It's illegal for U.S. companies and citizens to do business with governments that sponsor terrorism, but it's not against the law to invest in international companies that do business with those governments.
