St. Louis, MO – A well-known landmark in Clayton is being put up for sale.
Concordia Seminary announced today (Friday) that it will sell the old Christian Brothers College (CBC) High School on Clayton Road.
Concordia has owned the high school next to its own campus for two years, after CBC left three years ago for its new west County campus.
Concordia Vice President Rev. Glenn Thomas says school leaders have no idea how much money the land would fetch, but it is prime real estate. "To have Clayton Road frontage like that and to have 8.2 acres in Clayton, we would think at least that this is an extremely desirable property," Thomas said, in an interview. "So it will be interesting to see what potential use they might have for that property."
Thomas says it's possible whoever buys it might want to tear the old building down, but it's way too early to know for sure.
He adds leaders had decided they don't need the high school because Concordia can meet its needs with its own 72 acres: You know in terms of overhead and what we need for the future, do we need to carry this extra facility? Or are we better off in terms of our efficiency, cost effectiveness and space utilization to just stay on our historic campus? And that's the way the decision's gone."
The high school actually pre-dates the seminary that now owns it. The school was open four years before the seminary opened in 1926.
