St. Louis, MO – AmerenUE says it will pay restitution to a family that was injured when Ameren's Taum Sauk reservoir failed in December.

The St. Louis-based utility said Tuesday it has reached a settlement with Jerry and Lisa Toops, although it did not disclose terms.

The Toops and their three children were at home in the early morning hours of December 14th when a hole in the reservoir sent a more than a billion gallons of water rushing down the side of Proffit Mountain.

Jerry Toops is the superintendent of Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park, which sustained heavy damage.

The deluge washed away the Toops' house, injuring them and their three children.
