Kansas City – The family of the late Governor Mel Carnahan is ending its efforts to win punitive damages in the plane crash that killed the governor.

The crash in October 2000 also killed Carnhan's pilot son and a campaign aide.

A jury found an aircraft parts manufacturer liable for $4 million in actual damages. The jury rejected the Carnahan family's request for punitive damages.

A Jackson County judge refused to grant the family a new trial on the punitive damages issue, and a deadline for an appeal passed last week.

A lawyer for the family says the case is over.
