Jefferson City, MO – Missouri state lawmakers return to Jefferson City today (Monday) for the last week of their spring session.
They've already passed a budget, but are expected to address other issues. Included is a debate over giving voters the chance to add a gay marriage ban to the state constitution. The proposed amendment has passed the House and Senate in differing versions, but they'll have to agree on one version for it to make a statewide ballot.
Lawmakers could also discuss a change to the state's system to care for abused and neglected children.
House Speaker Catherine Hanaway is pushing legislation to overhaul the state's system for handling child abuse and neglect. The House has passed versions of it, and the Senate plans to take it up.
There are also economic development proposals awaiting action.
