Jefferson City, MO – The Missouri House and Senate left the Capitol after business Thursday on their annual spring vacation.
Only twice in the past decade has the House failed to send the Senate a budget before April.
And Speaker Catherine Hanaway said today the House may hold on to the budget until the middle of next month.
The budget is for the fiscal year starting July 1. It's being considered by the House Budget Committee, which likely will
send it to the full House soon after lawmakers return on the 29th of this month.
Hanaway says the debate may not start until around April 15th.
Senate President Pro Tem Peter Kinder says he'd like to get the spending bills sooner.
However, Hanaway says the slow movement is part of a deal reached months ago by the House, Senate and Governor Holden's office.
