St. Louis, MO –

When Dick Gephardt dropped out of the race for President after a fourth place finish in Iowa, Missouri's 74 unclaimed delegates opened up.

Of the seven states holding elections Tuesday, Missouri has the most delegates, but most of the campaigns had not planned on running here.

Gephardt's departure meant camps had to scramble to throw some kind of organization together, in less than two weeks. That's barely enough time, even for workers who are used to the fast-pace life of campaigning.

NPR's Mike Pesca also reported for Day to Day on on the challenges Democratic presidential candidates are encountering as they woo "Show Me State" voters. To hear that story, click here.
