Jefferson City, MO – A committee in the Missouri Senate Tuesday rejected legislation that would have prevented government regulation of high-speed Internet service.
The service, known as broadband, comes from either cable TV companies or phone companies. Cable companies aren't currently regulated by the state, but phone companies are.
There's currently nothing in the law to prevent the state from expanding that phone regulation into high-speed service.
That's why phone companies like SBC supported the legislation.
