Saint Anselm Parish Presents Songs of the Soul – A Concert of Sacred Music
Saint Louis, MO – Saint Anselm Parish warmly invites the community to Songs of the Soul, a moving concert of sacred music that traces the human spiritual journey from despair and suffering to hope and transformation. Featuring masterpieces by Dietrich Buxtehude, a seminal composer of the German Baroque, and his Italian contemporaries, the concert will take place in the stunning acoustics of the landmark Saint Louis Abbey Church on Sunday, June 1, at 3:00 p.m.
The performance will showcase the St. Cecilia Ensemble under the direction of Andrzej Zahorski, joined by two nationally renowned guest artists: soprano Cecilia MeeAe Nam and lutenist Jeffrey Noonan.
Celebrated for her “easy, flawlessly and effortlessly expressive” voice, Cecilia MeeAe Nam is widely recognized for her elegance and lyricism. Her distinguished career includes appearances with the Colorado Symphony, Boulder Philharmonic, Boulder Bach Festival, Colorado Music Festival Orchestra, Denver Philharmonic, Evergreen Chamber Orchestra, Jefferson Symphony, Ariel Trio, and the Colorado Chamber Orchestra.
She will be joined by Jeffrey Noonan, a specialist in early classical guitar and lute, and a familiar name to St. Louis audiences. Dr. Noonan regularly performs with ensembles such as Shakespeare’s Bande, Early Music St. Louis, and Armonia e Passione. He is also the founder and director of Early Music Missouri, a leading organization dedicated to the performance, teaching, and scholarship of early music. His many accolades include a St. Louis Regional Arts Commission Artist Fellowship and recognition by the Missouri Arts Council as a Featured Artist in 2021.
This special afternoon promises a rich and contemplative musical experience, featuring works by master composers of the Early Baroque who explore the soul’s passage through suffering toward joy.
