At The Loom: Marina Peng
At The Loom: Marina Peng
Join us for a real-time weaving experience with artist Marina Peng. Drawing inspiration from current 21c St. Louis exhibitions "Elevate" and "The Future Is Female", the artist will be stationed at a loom in the main gallery and will create a new tapestry work from start-to-finish. This durational performance and its accompanying playlist will reflect on themes of girlhood, connection/disconnection, and nostalgia. Visitors are invited to witness the artist’s weaving process throughout the afternoon and evening on Thursday, Oct. 30, and the artwork’s completion on Friday, Oct. 31.
Peng’s site-specific work "waxing, waning, wanting" (2025) is currently on display as part of "Elevate" at 21c . This exhibition series showcases the work of artists in St. Louis and the central Mississippi River region, highlighting the range and depth of visual culture in this dynamic, ever-changing area.
Marina Peng is a multimedia artist working primarily with fiber, photography, and sculpture. In her practice, she examines her position as a second-generation American in the Midwest. She explores the cultural dissonance that arises within this position by depicting the cycles that exist within her family, dual cultures, and herself.
