The Illinois Department of Transportation is holding a public meeting in Collinsville Monday afternoon to discuss upcoming construction projects and get feedback.
The meeting is part of IDOT’s annual effort to inform the people of Illinois about transportation projects in their areas. The Metro East is in IDOT’s District 8, which helped build the recently completed Mississippi River Bridge. IDOT holds similar meetings throughout the state each year.
District 8 program development engineer Kirk Brown said the purpose of the meeting is twofold:
“One, it lets the public know what projects we have in mind and what our initial scope is. But we also solicit input on things such as bike and pedestrian safety.”
WHERE: IDOT District 8 Office, 1102 Eastport Plaza WHEN: Monday, September 8, 4 - 6 p.m.
Immediate projects, such as road resurfacing and bridge repair, are already funded. Others, such as the Alton/Godfrey connector, are in the planning stages and actively seeking responses from the public on the best route. Brown said the projects still in the planning stages also have yet to be funded.
