Police search for missing boy
Searchers are looking for a 12-year-old St. Louis County boy last seen Sunday night after telling his family he was going to swing on a rope on the Meramec River. A missing person advisory went out early Monday morning for Christopher Marks. He was last seen at about 7:30 p.m. last night in Pacific. Police are assembling this morning at the river with plans to search the water and the heavily-wooded area near it.
Lambert Airport detours end this morning
Detours in front of baggage claim and passenger pickup at Lambert Airport are coming to an end this morning.
Airport Spokesman Jeff Lea says in addition to making things easier for travelers, completing the roadwork also means life will get back to normal for airport workers.
"Now that we have those exits reopen, people will be able to access ground transportation to curbside from bag claim and we don't have to have those extra personnel, or police, helping with those detours," says Lea.
Most of the lower level exits that were closed are now open, as well, but some roadwork on the west end of the roadway will continue.
The temporary loading zone for hotel shuttles will also remain on Arrivals Drive.
Federal official says East St. Louis needs more police
The top federal prosecutor in southern Illinois says East St. Louis doesn't have nearly enough police officers. The Belleville News-Democrat reports that U.S. Attorney Stephen Wigginton says the city needs as many as 173 officers, based on its crime rate. East St. Louis currently has 44 officers, and about half of the past decade's 300 homicides remain unsolved.
Wigginton pointed to an effort called Save Our Streets, which is bringing a surge of federal law enforcement agents to East St. Louis. He says the program is funded for 90 days and has already made an impact in its first 30 days - including arrests in the kidnapping and torture of an 18-year-old man who was lured to an East St. Louis home.
