St. Louis, MO. – An Army specialist with the Missouri National Guard was killed when his vehicle was hit by a grenade launcher in Iraq.
The military says Matthew Straughter of Belleville, Illinois, died Thursday in Baghdad from his wounds.
A Guard spokeswoman says he enlisted while living in St. Charles.
The 27-year-old was assigned to the 1138th Engineer Company, 35th Engineer Brigade.
The Missouri National Guard says funeral arrangements are pending.
