Four wounded in chainsaw attack near Jefferson City

By AP/KWMU

New Bloomfield, Mo. – Two people are in critical but stable condition following a chainsaw attack at a central Missouri homeless shelter this weekend.

Twenty-eight-year-old Matthew Watkins is accused of wounding four people with a chainsaw and knife Saturday at the Mid-America Care Center in New Bloomfield.

The shelter is affiliated with Larry Rice's New Life Evangelistic Center in St. Louis.

Watkins had been staying at the shelter for a couple of weeks and was part of an on-the-job training program there.

He faces four counts each of first-degree assault and armed criminal action.
