St. Louis, Mo. – Starting Thursday, drivers who break down in St. Louis County can call a new service.

New trucks will drive around, looking for stalled cars and crashes. They're like the "Motorist Assist" trucks already on highways but they'll only be on secondary roads, like Page, Clayton, and Manchester.

The aim is to keep those roads clear next year when I-64 is closed between I-170 and Ballas Road.

MO-DOT spokeswoman Linda Wilson also says more trucks will be on those alternate routes, but not as many as people might think.

"You are not going to find an interstate truck going from Denver to Indianapolis who's going to hop off on Ladue Road," Wilson said, during an appearance Wednesday on KWMU's "St. Louis on the Air." "There's just no reason for them to be there. You're more likely to run into that Mobil gas truck or that Schnuck's truck, but they're trying to get products and services to you."
