St. Louis, MO – A new report from Missouri's Department of Health and Senior Services says people who worked or lived near the Zonolite/W.R. Grace plant in south St. Louis were exposed to harmful asbestos.
The plant stands near where Hampton goes over Manchester; its corner is technically in the Hill neighborhood.
Workers there for years processed vermiculite from Libby, Mont. that later was found to contain asbestos.
The report also says there's been no spike in asbestos-related deaths.
But workers, family of workers, and those who lived near the plant or went to the nearby Gratiot Grade School from the 1940s to late 1980s should tell their doctor, even if they're not showing signs of asbestos exposure.
