Jefferson City, MO. – President George Bush visited a Jefferson City senior center Tuesday to tout the new Medicare prescription drug plan Part D.
Bush urged seniors to sign up for the plan before the May 15th deadline.
He says 29 million Americans have already signed up for the program and argues the plan offers seniors a variety of "cost-effective" prescription drug options.
Still, he acknowledges that Part D's possibilities have led to hiccups in Missouri.
"You've got 42 choices to choose from here in Missouri. And that can be a little confusing; I knew that would be the case," President Bush said. "But on the other hand I also knew that there were thousands of fellow citizens who would be willing to go out and help people determine what choice suited their needs."
Earlier this year, the state requested funds from Washington to help buy emergency stocks of prescription drugs for seniors who had trouble signing up for Part D.
