Columbia, MO. – Top-level administrators at the University of Missouri today are backing away from comments made last night by former MU basketball coach Quin Snyder.
In his first public statements since resigning Friday, Snyder says the decision to end his contract at the end of the season had been passed off from above.
He says in a meeting with an "athletic department official" Thursday, it was made "very clear" where the decision was coming from.
"He informed me that he had been told that both the president, the chancellor, and a key member of the Board of Curators had all approved this decision," Snyder said. "At that point there was really no confusion in mind about what the course of action was."
However, in a series of written statements released after Snyder's press conference, university officials have denied knowing anything about the meeting.
UM President Elson Floyd says he was "never consulted" about conversations regarding Snyder's contract before Thursday.
Likewise, MU Chancellor Brady Deaton says he was "not aware any contact was being made" with Snyder last week.
