Cardinals Release New Stadium Drawings

(St. Louis Cardinals)

By Matt Sepic, KWMU

St. Louis – The St. Louis Cardinals have updated their plans for a new $400 million downtown stadium.

The computer-generated renderings are the first plans to be made public since architects released conceptual watercolors three years ago.

Cardinals Vice President of Business Development Bill DeWitt III said the new facility will better fit its downtown surroundings than Busch Stadium.

"A motorist or a pedestrian walking along Clark Street will be able to look through a fence down into the field of play," DeWitt said. "The open design in the outfield allows fans to view the city skyline, the Gateway Arch, much more than they were able to in Busch Stadium."

The team is still working to secure private financing for the facility, and hopes to have it in place later this month.

Team owners hope to have the stadium open for the 2006 season.
