Four Dead in Crash on MLK Bridge

By AP/KWMU

ST. Louis, MO – Four people died this morning when the van they were in crashed on a bridge over the Mississippi River.

The van crashed into a semi-truck early this morning on the Martin Luther King Bridge, just north of downtown St. Louis.

The fuel that spilled in the crash then caught fire.

All four of the dead were in the van, which was owned by Ride-Finders. That's an agency that arranges car-pooling for commuters in the St. Louis region.

Three other people in the van were also injured, as was the driver of the truck.

The accident shut down the entire four-lane bridge for the whole morning commute. That caused big traffic delays, especially for those on I-55 and I-64 in Illinois who had to find another bridge to get into Missouri.

Investigators still haven't determined a cause, but there have been cross-over crashes on the bridge before. The span doesn't have any divider to separate both directions of traffic.
