High Fives: Brent Jones

This article first appeared in the St. Louis Beacon, April 29, 2013 - For the Beacon's fifth birthday, we've asked people to share five favorite things from over the years.

  1. The Kresge videos: A lot of work, but also a lot of stories that deserved to be heard. Midtown, Garden District, The Loop, Old North.
  2. St. Louis heat records, hourly: Sifted through a massive amount of data, and then figured out a way to visually tell a story that affected everyone in the region.
  3. Hoffman timeline: Worked with Mary Delach Leonard to put the Hoffmans' story in a national context, used an alternative format to tell the story.
  4. KWMU time lapse: A project I started on by myself, I think I didn't even tell anyone else I was doing it until a couple months in. A fun welcome to our new neighbors.
  5. My visit to Cairo: "On the ground" reporting, with a U.S. senator and a lieutenant governor, a little breaking news when the street in front of us suddenly gave way, and an issue of massive importance to not just a fascinating town but also the river region.
