Scott Moore - Creating a Legacy

Scott Moore is no average 36-year-old.

It’s not just that he served in the U.S. Army and was deployed for a one-year tour in Iraq. Or that he wrote a book to help himself and others with the PTSD he returned with (Me Vs PTSD available on Amazon). Or that he is totally changing careers next month when he goes back to school at St. Louis University to pursue a Masters in Social Work. It’s not any of those remarkable things.

Moore is not average because at the age of 36 he has joined the Legacy Society at St. Louis Public Radio by including the station in his estate plans. He’s too young to be thinking about such things, you might be thinking to yourself.

According to Moore, who is a self-professed life-long planner, it was a normal thing to do.

“I was working on my estate plans and realized that I spend a lot of time with St. Louis Public Radio so why not make it a part of my plan?” he said. He is leaving his gift to general operating support but hopes it will ensure that reporters in the future don’t have to worry so much about their living situations and can focus their energy on news stories.

“In addition,” he said, “it’s important to think about these things at a young age because you never know what will happen in the next moment of your life." He also said that it ensures no one else is deciding where your inheritance will go.

Moore said he thinks it’s important for all those committed to STLPR to ensure its future.

And his final advice to other St. Louis Public Radio listeners and supporters: “Start young. You can always change your mind!”

We think Scott is pretty special. If you’d like to include St. Louis Public Radio in your estate plans, no matter what your age, or have already done so please email Annette Carter or give her a call at 314-516-7476.
