“The PIN is all about building a relationship so when something happens, we hear about it,” says Linda Lockhart, outreach specialist and PIN analyst for STLPR. “The Public Insight Network helps St. Louis Public Radio tell stories that include the perspective of those most affected.”
“We have more than 3,300 sources who have volunteered to help us in our reporting,” Linda continues. “These individuals are among nearly 217,000 PIN sources nationally.”
In fact, some of the best stories of 2014 featured information from PIN source. Reporting about summer events and festivals moving to Chesterfield included the perspectives of PIN source from across the region, and in the St. Louis County executive debate, candidates fielded questions from PIN sources.
One of Linda’s favorite stories came from a simple question about the popular parody singer Weird Al Yankovic’s summer album, Mandatory Fun. Weird Al’s most devoted fan, Katie Borders of Webster Groves gave one of the more entertaining PIN posts of the year.
