A Discussion With Democracy Now! Host Amy Goodman
As an author and a broadcaster, Amy Goodman has made a name for herself as a passionate voice for alternative perspectives. In her role as the host and executive producer of independent news program Democracy Now!, both she and her show have garnered multiple awards.
She is also the author of five books, including The Exception to the Rulers, Static and Breaking the Sound Barrier. Her most recent book is The Silenced Majority: Stories of Uprisings, Occupations, Resistance and Hope, co-written with Dennis Moynihan.
On Saturday, March 29 she will be the keynote speaker at the Gateway Journalism Review First Amendment celebration in Des Peres.
Today on St. Louis on the Air she spoke with host Don Marsh about democracy, President Obama, Edward Snowden, and the state of journalism in our country.
“Democracy is not something we just achieve in one fell swoop. It’s something we have to fight for every day. And the first amendment is such an important part of that. I really see in this country, journalists being cracked down on, whistleblowers being gone after, to the extent we haven’t seen before,” said Goodman.
