The non-profit organization stl250 is planning a yearlong celebration for 2014 to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the founding of St. Louis.
Erin Budde, the executive director of stl250 and former senior vice president at Wells Fargo Advisors, is leading the effort. Budde told St. Louis on the Air host Don Marsh that the organization will hold signature events but intends to be “inclusive, region-wide and not dictating how the region should celebrate but to reach out to everyone else and invite them to help us figure it out.”
In mid-February, 250 ornamental cakes will be placed throughout the region. Budde said they “will be placed at historical locations, tourist attractions and wonderful public resources … in each of the counties in the major municipalities.”
A software application for smartphones will accompany the markers, allowing for discovery and information sharing of selected locations.
Full Disclosure: St. Louis Public Radio General Manager Tim Eby is on the Board of Directors for stl250.
