Second Lincoln County Jail escapee captured

By AP/St. Louis Public Radio

ST. LOUIS – The second of two federal defendants who bolted from an eastern Missouri jail has been captured in St. Louis.

Authorities say St. Louis police and federal marshals took Corey Durand Cross into custody without resistance Thursday afternoon at an apartment on the 3300 block of Chippewa Street, just a day after fellow fugitive John Wesley Jones was nabbed in Swansea, Ill., just east of St. Louis.

Both men broke out of the Lincoln County Jail early Monday by somehow climbing onto the lockup's roof, then making their way down a 30-foot wall.

Federal investigators had named Jones a suspect in the potentially multimillion-dollar August heist of an ATM-servicing business in St. Louis.

At the time of their escape, Jones and Cross had been jailed without bond on weapons charges. Cross also faces drug charges.
