Alton, IL – The Illinois State Police are investigating a Metro East man for allegedly forging signatures on petitions to enter the U.S. Senate race in Illinois as a write-in candidate.
Shon-tiyon "Santiago" Horton hasn't been charged with a crime. He fell more than 600 signatures short of the number needed to be an official write-in candidate in the race to fill President Obama's old seat, where Republican Mark Kirk defeated Democrat Alexi Giannoulias.
Horton denied forging the signatures. He said he merely signed on behalf of those who could not write their names. He got 15 write-in votes in Madison County; statewide totals were not available.
