Jefferson City, Mo. – It's generally accepted among Missouri leaders that there won't be any more federal stimulus money next year to help ease the state through financial hard times.
Governor Jay Nixon all but confirmed that today during an appearance in St. Louis.
"I'm certainly not counting on any," Nixon said. "As we put together what our budget is for next year, we're not counting on any additional help in that regard from Washington DC...we'll continue to manage the finances of this state with the resources that we have while holding the line on taxes."
Back in July, Governor Nixon's Budget Director said that next year's state budget was facing a projected shortfall of around $600 million. Linda Luebbering also said one reason why was the expected loss of $860 million to cover Medicaid and educational needs.
