St. Louis, MO. – An alternative energy group put in an offer Wednesday to buy the Chrysler plant in Fenton, but its identity is not being disclosed.
The development team submitted the offer to Capstone Advisory Group, the restructuring firm that's handling Chrysler's bankruptcy.
Denny Coleman, president of the St. Louis County Economic Development Council, says the group includes several companies involved in alternative and renewable energy.
Coleman says it's the kind of development they were hoping for.
"Those are the kind of companies that would create quality jobs and significant numbers of jobs and they could also take advantage of very substantial amounts of money that is being made available by the U.S. Department of Energy," Coleman said.
Chrysler closed the plant in Fenton in July of last year taking with it about 1,200 jobs.
Coleman says it's too early to estimate how many jobs the potential buyer could bring to the area.
