LAKE ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Federal agents and police in Lake St. Louis are investigating a pipe bomb explosion.
The bomb went off around 3 a.m. at an electrical substation, but there was no power outage.
Police Captain Chris DiGiuseppi said whoever planted the device tripped a burglar alarm. And when an officer arrived he heard the sizzling of the bomb's burning fuse.
"He got back into his car, drove forward a bit, and the pipe bomb exploded," DiGiuseppi said.
DiGiuseppi said milk cartons filled with gasoline were found at the same substation about a year ago, and detectives are trying to figure out if that incident is connected to today's.
