At-large suspect charged with murder of Metro East mayor

Belleville, Ill. – Authorities in the Metro East are searching for a man accused in the shooting death of Washington Park's mayor.
A warrant issued Wednesday in St. Clair County accuses 34-year-old Aaron B. Jackson of murder; his bond was set at $1 million.
Mayor John Thornton was killed in his car after he left work.
Jackson and another man were questioned later that day as "persons of interest," but they were released when the time authorities could legally detain someone without charges had lapsed.
Authorities haven't revealed a possible motive in the killing.
