Chester, Ill. – Three workers suffered serious injuries Tuesday in an explosion and fire at a southern Illinois grain terminal. A fourth person suffered a leg injury.
It happened around 4 p.m. at the ConAgra plant in Chester, a Mississippi River town about 60 miles south of St. Louis. The silo smoldered into the morning.
Contractors were cleaning it at the time. Investigators have not narrowed down the cause. But dry grain dust is highly flammable.
