Washington Park, Ill. – The son of Washington Park's mayor is offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the conviction of his father's killer.
Police say Mayor John Thornton, 52, was shot three times at close range while sitting in his car Thursday. He was returning home from a second job.
Two people police identified as "persons of interest" in the killing were released Saturday without charges.
Meanwhile, funeral arrangements for the mayor have been set.
A wake is scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday, with the funeral immediately following at Mount Calvary Church in Washington Park.
