Jefferson City, Mo. – Many more of Missouri's political candidates are calling themselves Republicans than Democrats this year.
But what isn't clear is whether the high number of GOP candidates is a result of term limits or a general frustration with government.
There are 211 Republicans and 171 Democrats running in Missouri House races.
House Republican leaders say that's part of a backlash after the 2008 election. Democrats say multiple Republicans running for the same seat show a lack of trust
in the Republican party.
The larger number of GOP candidates means Republican incumbents are facing more primary challenges than Democrats.
Third-party candidates make up 10 percent of those running for office.
