St. Louis – Mayor Francis Slay says he wants to make Lambert Airport smoke free in a little more than a year.
The airport is in St. Louis County but is owned by the city. Its ventilated smoking lounges are exempt from recently-passed indoor smoking bans, but Slay said this week on his blog that he wants Lambert to be smoke free by January of 2011.
On the posting Slay says he is aware of the logistic and security issues involved with sending smokers outside, but he is ready to work with incoming airport director Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge, who starts in January.
