Search ongoing for suspect in small-town murders

By Rachel Lippmann

Logan County, IL – Law enforcement officials in a farming town in Logan County, Ill., are urging residents to lock their doors and be cautious as they search for a suspect in a quintuple homicide.

Logan County sheriffs responding to a 911 call of shots fired in the community of Beason found the bodies of 46-year-old Raymond Gee, his 39-year-old wife Ruth, and their children, who ranged in age from 11 to 16. A 3-year-old girl who survived is at a hospital in Peoria, Ill.

Logan County authorities say they have leads, but no suspects. Sheriff Steven Nichols called it a brutal homicide. "Until we find this person, we would consider this person armed and dangerous," he said.

Beason is about 120 miles northeast of St. Louis; it has about 200 residents.
