Belleville, Ill. – Police in Belleville say the videotaped attack on a 17-year-old student by two other riders on a school bus doesn't appear to have racial overtones after all.
Police Capt. Don Sax said Monday that the beating of a white Belleville West High School student by two black schoolmates appeared to be racially motivated.
But yesterday, he said the attack appears to have been about only where the victim wanted to sit on the bus.
All of it was recorded by a video camera mounted inside the bus. By Tuesday, the video, released by police, was circulating around the Internet.
School officials suspended both of the students suspected in the beating, but there's no word on criminal charges.
